What’s a cold weather kit for a generator, and do I really need it?

A cold weather kit works by keeping the oil and battery at a suitable temperature during cold months to ensure your generator will start on even the coldest of winter days. Cold weather kits are especially suitable and recommended here in the Ottawa area, with our cold winters.

Can I change the oil in my backup generator and do other maintenance myself?

We do not recommend doing oil changes and maintenance yourself. Most generator brands require maintenance to be done by an authorized service provider in order to maintain warranty. Beyond this, though an oil change seems simple, generators also often require valve adjustments, load testing, spark plug replacements and an overall inspection.

What fuel source do I need for a backup generators? If I get rid of my propane will it still work with natural gas?

Standby home generators can run on natural gas or propane. If your generator is currently on propane and you’re switching to natural gas as a fuel source it is possible to have your generator converted to natural gas. Schedule an appointment with us to discuss.
