Were you shocked to find a nest in your standby generator? Or have you not seen a nest in it, but you have seen wasps, mice, birds, or other critters go in and out of it like they own the place?

If so, that’s a common problem – one we see all the time.  Various pests, particularly wasps / bees, are drawn to the shelter provided by an enclosure like the one that houses your backup power.  It’s easy for them to get in through the little cracks and gaps.  That’s unavoidable.

It’s only a minor problem if you get the nest removed.  If you don’t get it removed, the nest can restrict airflow to the generator, cause electrical connections to short-circuit or corrode, give mice an opportunity to chew wires, and can give your friendly generator technician a trouser-darkening scare.

Perhaps worst of all, a nest in your home’s backup generator can become a staging ground for those pests to enter your home.
