Apartment COmplex Backup Generator Repair & Maintenance Service
Repairing & Maintaining Standby Generators for Apartment Complexes Around Ottawa
You’re responsible not only for the apartment complex itself, but for just about everything that happens in it. When someone can’t get WiFi to work, or can’t run a CPAP machine, or has a fridge full of spoiled food, or is too hot or too cold, you hear about it. If someone falls down, or gets trapped, or gets lost, or is the victim of a crime, you hear about it, and so will your attorney. Now multiply those sorts of problems times dozens or hundreds of residents.
And that’s when the power is on. When your apartment complex loses power, especially if it’s because of a storm, everything gets worse and gets worse fast. Every problem becomes more urgent and begets 2 more problems, while unresolved problems tend to come back. Even if you get the electricity running now, you’ll still have plenty of problems to mop up, especially if you have multiple properties in your portfolio.
Most generators in an apartment complex need a minimum of 60-100kWs. If you’ve got a very small apartment complex and only want to be able to keep emergdency lights on, a 10kW generator may be all you need. At the other end of the spectrum, if you’ve got a larger housing complex and want to run many or most of its systems, you might need 2 million kWs. We’ll help you size the generator to your unique needs.
In any event, your backup generator probably doesn’t have the kilowatts to power all of the systems in your apartment complex, but it needs to be able to run at least the basic systems:
- Elevators (which use a lot of kilowatts)
- Emergency lighting, both interior (e.g. hallways) and exterior (e.g. parking lot)
- Signage (like exit signs)
- Smoke detectors
- The fire pump and sprinkler system
- HVAC
- Outlets in the units
You can’t avoid an outage, but you can avoid being caught without backup power. When you need it most also happens to be when it’s least likely to work, if your generator hasn’t been properly maintained.
Only regular testing and maintenance of your backup generator can spare you and your residents from biblical amounts of agony. But the good news is that that’s probably all you need: If you work with an experienced generator specialist on a regular schedule, each tune-up should be quick and uneventful and inexpensive. You’ll also avoid expensive repairs, minimize liability, and feel that satisfying “whoosh” the instant the grid goes down and your backup flicks on.
